:Goodbye Shoes (a resting place for your sole):
ROLE: Creative
THE BRIEF BRIEF: A more earth-friendly and memorable way to retire your running shoes
PARTNER: Jessica Bohonik at BANANA-NANA Photography
The retired running shoe. Too gross to go to Goodwill, too sentimental to throw away. They’ve carried you through 500 miles, down foreign roads, and into some of the best sunsets of your life.
Goodbye Shoes is an interactive art project that gives runners a more memorable send-off for their retired shoes. Each pair of shoes gets an artfully crafted diorama style portrait, styled with little trinkets that nod to the miles and memories you shared.
After their farewell, the shoes are donated to a program that grinds athletic footwear into recyclable materials—so they can be reincarnated into something new.
An online experience allows users to fill out custom forms and the option to have a shoe coffin mailed to them so they can ship the shoes back to the studio to start the reincarnation process.
